China ex-food and drug safety chief sentenced to death

BEIJING (Reuters) - China sentenced the former head of its food and drugs agency to death for corruption on Tuesday in a surprise judgment as the government sought to contain a wave of scandals over health safety.

Zheng Xiaoyu, former head of the State Food and Drug Administration, was convicted on charges of taking bribes and dereliction of duty, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Beijing Municipal No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court.

Perhaps we need to have our government officials held to higher standards for violating our Constitutional rights with programs like REAL ID and NAIS while simultaniously promoting the importing of poisonous food stuffs from overseas using Most Favored Nation status for countries like China. A little accountability plus separation of Church (Big Business) and State would go along ways at heading off these problems.

  1. Months ago in the DVD on NoNais we did the chopping of heads was suggested as the solution to China being caught for the food adultrations. It has come to pass with the escape goat being convicted and thus now back to business as usual. What about all the adultrations in the USA with new born babies having 200 pesticides in their blood at birth? This is at birth before even one bite of real food or mother’s milk ever taken. Sarah Snow’s Show had a 30 minute show on this right in the hospital where the tests were taken at birth. I think it was orgaic living show on my Direct TV 286.
Now Swift is being sold to Brazil Co. Brazilian firm to buy Swift, become world’s biggest meat conglomerate so even more of our food will be controlled and at risk right here in USA if they don’t move it all off shore except the dumping of finished product here. The only way to make heads roll is to vote them out of office and stop the destruction of United States of America. Vote no confidence with no votes for dems or repubs and only vote for real constitutionalist. It is time for the 80% to stand up to the 10% and say NO More, the other 10% are the paid off so they will vote as they are told to vote.

  2. I think China is setting a darned fine example here. There are bunch of heads in the US that need to roll. Shoot! I would even settle for seeing some of them wearing tar and feathers and run out of town. What would these rotten beaurocrats do if they had to earn an honest living like the rest of us?

  4. Lee, sent you emails all day but they bounced as did most of the gmail and yahoo yestereday to others. I resent those also and here was my reply to your wonderful list. Sorry about that, still not getting through to your email address. Keep those responses coming folks together we can make this happen. Be sure and give state since we work by state groups then combine as a whole.
    Here was the first reply….

Lee, you are great! I knew you would be one to respond. The list is great and came through fine.
I am forwarding this to Mr. Bullard, CEO R-Calf and our National Chair Joel Gill and they will put this in the Chair Hands in your area and/or I will also have them tell you directly how to proceed for your area and if need be you and I can work it together. We will need three or four to do the conference calls and then plaster everyone you know on how to contact and push for legislation we have introduced but not made it out of committee, then the whole follow up through the process which can happen with little notice. Sometimes calls and faxes must be made quickly. I often go to bed with faxes going out all night automatically while I sleep to make a deadline then follow up with calls the next day. Email is the least effective but also sent. Thank you so much and will get back to you really soon. Any blogs or anyone you think of please send to me or those I have CC this to Bill Bullard and Joel Gill emails above plus more info at http://www.r-calfusa.com .

  6. Risk Management and Samples only after it is shipped is how business is done. WAKE UP CONSUMERS…YOU ARE AT RISK until real food safety is mandatory…real food safety is COOL (Country of Origin Label)without NAIS, Test at Packers for BSE and allow owners to test, Test at Huge Processors before shipping to consumer and real inspectors at every processor and every shipment into country tested not just a tiny, tiny sample or a tiny, tiny %of the shipments and real inspections at outside country facilities. Latest recall…after the fact:

California Firm Recalls Ground Beef For Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

    Recall Release CLASS I RECALL
    FSIS-RC-025-2007 HEALTH RISK: HIGH

WASHINGTON, June 3, 2007 - United Food Group, LLC, a Vernon, Calif., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 75,000 pounds of ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

Preparing Ground Beef For Safe Consumption

USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHOTLINE or visit www.fsis.usda.gov

Although the product(s) being recalled should be returned to the point of purchase, consumers preparing other ground beef products should heed the following advice.

Consumers should only eat ground beef patties that have been cooked to a safe temperature of 160 °F. When a ground beef patty is cooked to 160 °F throughout, it can be safe and juicy, regardless of color.

The only way to be sure a ground beef patty is cooked to a high enough temperature to kill harmful bacteria is to use an accurate food thermometer.

Color is not a reliable indicator that ground beef patties have been cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria such as E. coli O157:H7.

Eating a pink or red ground beef patty without first verifying that the safe temperature of 160 °F has been reached is a significant risk factor for foodborne illness.

Thermometer use to ensure proper cooking temperature is especially important for those who cook or serve ground beef patties to people most at risk for foodborne illness because E. coli O157:H7 can lead to serious illness or even death. Those most at risk include young children, seniors, and those with compromised immune systems.

The problem was discovered through sampling done by the California Department of Health Services and the Colorado Department of Health, in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the course of an investigation into illnesses. The ground beef products were produced on April 20 and were shipped to retail distribution centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon and Utah.

    E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. The very young, seniors and persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.

Consumers with questions about the recall should contact company Customer Service Representative James Turner at (800) 325-4164. Media with questions about the recall should contact company Vice-President for Sales and Marketing Brian Levy at (323) 588-5286.

The labels of the products subject to recall bear the establishment number “EST. 1241″ inside the USDA mark of inspection or printed on the package. All of the products bear a sell by date of “May/06/07,” a freeze by date of “May/07/07″ or a produced on date of “April/20/07.” Products subject to recall include: [View Labels, PDF Only]

Consumers with food safety questions can “Ask Karen,” the FSIS virtual representative available 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov. The toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from l0 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. Recorded food safety messages are available 24 hours a day.
The consumer should call their representatives and get active in the 2007 farm bill also….your lives and future food supply are at stake.
