KY Pushing for Mandatory NAIS

Alert - State — walterj 7:42 am

Kentucky is pushing through regulations [1, 2, 3] for mandatory animal identification for all movement, sales and showing of livestock and poultry. If you are in Kentucky, now is the time for you to contact your representatives and let them know that you do not want Premises ID registration, animal ID or animal tracking - the three components of the USDA’s National Animal Identification System (NAIS). Protect your rights to farm now!

  2. Walter, thanks for posting this. I am hoping that everyone who reads it in the state of KY will write their legislator and complain about the broad and far-reaching language in these proposed regulations. It will give the State Vet’s Office the power to come onto any farm and decide to kill any animal which shows signs of “communicable” disease (like cocci, which almost all farm animals have.) It’s laughable that the USDA is saying NAIS is voluntary, yet using big money to get the states to make it mandatory. What a racket! We need to fight back NOW.

  3. This isn’t about Kentucky, but I don’t know how to post it otherwise.

House Bill 1151 is designed specifically to eliminate the use of NAIS in Washington state. Those who are interested should go to this URL to learn more about it.

We must give support to this bill. If those who are against NAIS are vocal enough this bill might go through, but without our support it doesn’t have a chance, in my opinion.

Besides Pearson, Representatives Kretz, Dunshee, Sullivan, Kristiansen, Warnick, and Haler are sponsoring this bill, so they can be added to the anti-NAIS list.

  4. This comes as no suprise as Kentucky has been a USDA go-fer for a long time. So far there has been very little said publicly Pro or Con but you can rest assured that this will be a Battle that will get the attention it deserves

  5. I have written both my US Senator and US representative ( loose terminology here).
They sent me the “USDA response” form letter - stuff I would read directly off of the USDA website promoting NAIS.

I wrote all of my state reps., and state senators 2 weeks ago, and have yet to hear back from them.

I wrote all of the major newspapers in KY last Friday - We need everyone that has animals to voice their opinion on this!

  6. Give your Reps and Sentor a call! Bring the issue to the light of day. Don’t stop until you have NoNAIS legislation. That is how we accomplished it in WA. Feel free to look at our legislation or contact me and I will give it to you. Customize it for your state. This is one time that borrowing is just fine :-) I would start at your state instead of DC. I did allot of research and the power to stop this is at the local and state level.
