MO NIAA Protest 8/23/06

Action Item — walterj 11:06 am

From Doreen:

On August 23rd in Kansas City Missouri, the NIAA will be having USDA Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns giving the keynote address at their 2006 ID EXPO at the Crown Westin Plaza. Also on that day Dr. Mary Zanoni will be participating in a panel discussion representing those of us opposed to the NAIS.

There will be a peaceful protest against the NAIS going on outside of the meeting all day on the 23rd. We need people to show up and allow themselves to be viewed by those who would push this system upon us without our consent. Already there have millions if not billions of federal dollars (yours!) spent to bring this plan to fruition. The USDA claims that 86 million has been spent on it, but that only covers the amounts given to States to set up databases and begin accepting premises registrations. It fails to include at least 39 pilot projects and grants to businesses providing the technology and trials within such groups as 4H; nor does it cover the amounts paid to employees and representatives of the USDA in promulgating and developing the plan.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get your voice heard and to show those wishing to bring this about that you are willing to stand strongly against it. Please contact Doreen via email to confirm your attendance and willingness to participate in this event. We don’t have much time.

  1. If the illegal aliens can fill the streets then so can we. I will be there and bring as many as possible in my car or the Granny Warrior Motor Home plus my car. It is time to fill the streets with protesters fighting for our constitution instead of destroying it. It is time to put the talk into action and hit the streets. If you can’t come then get every friend, relative or anyone you even remotely know in the Kansas City, Mo. area to come out on the 23rd. It is time for action. Some are too far away but know someone in the area that can stand in your spot holding a sign and can decorate their cars and bring people with them to fill that car. I am driving from central Oklahoma so are many others. Let’s make this a NoNAIS conference and get heard and seen since the USDA has ignored us from the get-go.

  3. Rant:

I’m not a farmer, but I dream of some day living some form of rural lifestyle, as yet undefined, but may possibly involve livestock. Hence my interest in this.

For a while I’ve had a hard time putting my finger on just why NAIS is so offensive to me. Of course there are all the many reasons Walter and others have explained so well. But there was something else….

It finally has crystalized in my mind: this limits a freedom that is dear to my heart. That is the freedom to be low-tech. I live in a very high-tech environment right now and am sick of it. I long for low-tech. A rural/ farming/ homesteading lifestyle seems to be the direction to go for a much needed relief from the high-tech mania that has taken over the world. However, I look in that direction, and what do I see? NAIS. Forcing pointless high-tech gagetry into a profession that has been low-tech for centuries. It’s another shining example of technophile egg-heads thinking they can solve everything with just one more gaget; just one more automation system; just one more database that they can use to track and control everything. Well all our problems will go away with this computer program! Hog-wash! Applying high-tech “solutions” to some problems often is only the beginning of a whole host of new problems that dwarf the original problem they’re attempting to solve. I work in the IT field and I see it all the time. The original purpose and justification for a system is forgotten in the ongoing attempts to make it work and expand its scope, as the technophiles that put it in place are more interested in implementing and playing with their new “kewl” toys than in actually solving the original problem (if they are even aware of what the original problem is that justified the system being implemented). System vendors are only all to eager, then to encourage this because it means they can sell more “kewl” widgets. And on the cycle goes, while the original issues that the technology is supposed to address get ignored. It’s madness and I want out. But the direction I want to head to get out appears to threatened to get blocked. I want the right and freedom to be low-tech. I don’t want to have some high-tech gadgetry crammed down my throat and be forced to use it against my wishes! I don’t want to have the door closed to being able to live a more natural, non-technological life.

    Thanks for letting me rant!

[Well said, jb! Tell your friends, family, neighbors, etc. Get the word out and tell your legislators you are royally pissed about erosion of our freedoms. -WJ]

  5. Finally a response from MN that is not canned:

ell, there seems to be a gap in information regarding this subject.
You had asked about the status of this issue and I have found a few bits of information. The advisory committee has been meeting to figure out how to best proceed with this program. Because the program is a new concept and is threatening to some folks in the agricultural community, the advisory committee is moving slowly in order to address as many of the concerns as possible before making the program mandatory. The advisory committee currently seems to be working to identify farms and other location where livestock are housed and have not proceeded fully to the point of requiring the identification of each individual animal.
In order for this to be effective, obviously support and buy-in from
those in the agricultural community would be necessary.

It is hard to assess the program because there are still many unknowns.
The committee is studying the impacts of an animal identification program on data privacy issues among other issues to address concerns.
Another concern which is being studied is related to the implementation and maintenance costs of the program. The concerns being raised are definitely being studied by the advisory committee. Input from people is critical for any program to be successful. I would encourage you to express your views by contacting the Minnesota Board of Animal Health.
In addition, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture has also recently hired Ted Radintz to be the NAIS coordinator and he can be reached at 651-201-6541. He will be coordinating the advisory committee meetings and is the contact person for people who may want to participate in the process.

I hope this information is closer to what you were looking for. The fact of the matter is that the program is in the development stage and I would encourage you to express your specific concerns to Mr. Radintz or the advisory committee as well to share your insights.

    Have a great week,

We have human habitat corridors planned where you will feel our benevolence monitoring your dietary patterns, and of course, your every encounter and movement. Welcome and goood success with your dream jb. Wm

  8. Hi Barbara:)

Just for clarities sake, you missed my meaning.

The Federation was ‘the good guys(allegedly)’ and it was Federation law that demanded Federation members wear their communicator/locator pin at all times.

It was not often highlighted but Trek had the new and improved Real ID of the future.

  9. Communicator/locator pins weren’t mandatory for civilians.

    Comment Barbara — August 10, 2006 @ 8:54 pm

  10. Hi Barbara:)

Perhaps I am wrong about Trek civilians(though I believe they were pinned on board). NTL, our Federation has every intention of pinning each and every one of us subdermally.

And the funny thing(in a sadly queer sense) is you, and I, and many others here are in the extreme minority who will not go along voluntarily. In my case, never.

    respects, Wm

  11. Let’s get the turnout for Kansas City MO. We can go to ball games across the country, illegals can get off work with Tyson and Cargill to attend protest to destroy our constituion and our HOMELAND, people will go cross country to show their animals, attend conventions and fairs at great distances and monies so…. Let’s sign up and show up for the Kansas City MO, Protest and fight for our property, animals and constitution. Get real and get involved. Doreen Hanes has written a great article on the cost of NAIS in dollars and cents at link it will be on there after the 13th. It is a great read. I have the one on the 12th and NONAIS and turnout for the Kansas City MO Protest will be featured on the newsletters every day until after the Protest and then NAIS will still be a main topic. GET INVOLVED and attend or find someone near the protest to go and stand in person for you if you can’t come. One day is not much to ask to show how serious we are at stopping NAIS on the little guy.
Those who are working day in and day out handing out fliers, writing their local papers, contacting local news outlets and working tirelessly one on one to educate people. I really appreciate your efforts. You are my hero. You are protecting us from the following…

The above shows why game fowl has to go or any animal not gentically patented. To control the food and get royalties year after year from GM animals the core gentic base must be totally in the hands of those elite that want total control of all food supplies. Your game fowl, my good old homestead goat or horse has to go. link and link alternate locations if first link fails. They tend to disappear. My heritage cow, your chicken, pig, horse, dog, cat or goat are a threat to profits and control.

  12. I got this email and thought it should be listed here. Apologies if not.

This is from Doreen. More info on the protest

The protest against the National Animal Identification System at the NIAA (Nat’l Institute of Animal Agriculture) ID Expo ‘06 in Kansas City, Missouri on August 23rd is coming along nicely.

Here are the general rules of peaceful protesting:

We have the Constitutionally guaranteed right to peaceably assemble.

We must stay on public ground, in this instance, the sidewalk. You CANNOT impede people’s progress. If someone wants to walk past you, let them pass. You must keep moving along, if you sit down it can be considered to be loitering.

We must NOT verbally assault people. You may chant, speak to them, but no cursing, threats, or spitting at all. You can be arrested for verbal assault.

Should there be any problems or threats of arrest, sit or kneel down, say NOTHING, and let the police carry you to the paddy wagon if they so desire. In my experience, if these rules are followed any charges will be dropped and it will only help to get the word out about this heinous program.

The idea is to get people to see that we are strongly opposed and to hopefully let the public learn of the existence of the program and it’s effects on anyone who eats.

There are several low cost hotels in the Kansas City area. We recommend the following:

    Motel 6 - 11 miles NW - 8230 NW Prairie View Rd, Kansas City, 64151 - (816) 741-0142

Super 8 Motel Downtown - 0.4 miles NE

    Super 8 Motel - 6.7 miles NE

    Super 8 - 9.7 miles S
    6101 E 87th St, Kansas City, 64138
    (816) 765-6300

The event is to be at the Crown Westin Plaza Hotel at One East Pershing Rd. in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The meeting opens at 8am and closes at 5pm. It is our intention to have people present picketing for entire day in two hour shifts, or whatever is comfortable for each individual. We will have refreshments available in an rv that will be parked nearby along with some snacks. We ask that you bring along something to add to the kitty so that we are sure everyone’s needs can be met and we can relatively comfortable while picketing.

There are parking garages and also parking lots nearby. Most parking is on a pay basis, so be prepared for that. You are strongly encouraged to carpool!!! The cost of gas is something that we are all dealing with and we know it isn’t any fun. Media will be arriving before 8am and we would like to have people in place when the media begins to arrive.

Each 2 hour shift will have someone in a light blue shirt as the designated media person. These people will be well versed in the program and able to adequately explain our objections in a short and concise fashion. Please direct any media inquiries to these people.

Obviously wear comfortable shoes, and appropriate clothing. We suggest that you pick up an umbrella at the Dollar Store and some paint and paint NO NAIS or Stop Animal ID slogans on the umbrella. These will be helpful to you in either rain or sun, Check the weather before leaving for the event so there aren’t any surprises. We’ll do our best to anticipate all needs and be familiar with the area before your arrival so that we can direct you to whatever it is you may need.

Looking forward to meeting all of you and we are hoping and praying for a great turnout so that our voice will be heard above the moneyed corporations and big ag folks attempting to push this system on us! Thank you and God Bless!!!

I’m not going to beg people to show up. I’ll just say that today we did receive a phone call from a higher-up in the USDA saying (inter alia) that we should come in and learn more about the program instead of just picketing against it…I guess for more details you’ll have to show up! :)

  15. We have a District 4 Canidate from Oklahoma Going. He could be raising funds, speaking or working within the State Of Oklahoma to get elected but he cleared his calendar and will be there ready to walk the talk. Hal Spake is the man and he really does not like NAIS. He is running against Tom Cole who like Frank Lucas is all for NAIS and for Corporate Government from their actions.

Many politicians think they are “lawmakers” not representatives of the people. Many see their future as rulers not even lawmakers. Very few are representatives of the voters.

Let’s all turn out and tell these “lawmakers” and Corporate Governments that NONAIS is how to represent the people.
Walk the walk and with those who really choose to protect and represent us like Hal Spakes running for 4th District of Oklahoma. He will be there.

Jerry Ellis from District One Oklahoma also walks the walk. He has helped nonais more than anyone I know.

These same lawmakers promoting NAIS do not want Country of Origin that is on the books. They work tirelessly to rewrite grassfed, organic rules to allow all sorts of misrepresentation of quality and ingredients into our foods. Want to make suppliment prescription only for corporate profits and many Government agencies are not only regulating for Corporate Profits but share in the profits with legal for profit business ventures. They regulate for profit…NAIS is a prime example.

  16. There are going to be tons of State Ag Departments at this meeting. The schedule is quite an interesting read. There isn’t the slightest hint of any question as to whetherr this should be sone, but it’s all about actually implementing it.

I so hope people will show up. I may be wrong, but my contention is that these people aren’t all necessarily evil on a stick, but that there are people who have simply been pushing ahead with a thing that they haven’t ever really considered the ramifications of at finality. Certainly some of them are evil….and obviously the entire program is diabolical. One of my hopes is to get those who have simply been focusing on doing their ‘job’ to open their eyes and see the dedication of those of us opposed and have them consider their ways.

If you absolutely can’t be there and are inclined, please cover us in prayer. Thanks!!!

  17. From Missouri.

Common Sense tells me there is something even bigger at the end of this USDA’s project about micro-chipping animals.

I believe they will try to eventually conficate our land/property.

ALL OF OUR STATES MUST STAND UP TOGETHER TO FIGHT THIS MONSTER.

    Comment Judy — August 19, 2006 @ 3:06 pm

  18. link

for whole story of The perils of national animal ID.

Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s Marist dictator, who nationalized 95% of rural land and made the once African leading food-producing nation a nation of total chaos said, “Absolute power is when a man is starving and you are the only one able to give him food.”

The premise ID alone is enough to nationalize our land and turn Global Corporate Government into the only one able to control every bite of food in USA. It makes it impossible to own an animal without a permit. Remember when gun permits were started. Now it is not a right to bear arms but illegal to own a gun without a permit. A permit makes legal illegal with penalties and loss of constitutional rights.

  21. It is important that people contact their legislators and regulators about this sort of thing. Otherwise it is just the lobbyist crafting the law for the deep pockeeted big companies. I also write to the newspaper. Short concise to the point letters and don’t sound nutty.
