NO! it shouldn’t be mandatory .
I run a small farm with 4 horses and do lots of riding up and down my road and camping . I would have to call the government to take a spin on my horse . I can see if I were selling cattle, goats ect. for meat. I wouldn’t think it would be right to come in and shoot your horse . What would happen if there was a miss understanding if your horse had a ID or not? Between human error and computer error and the gov. one person wouldn’t have a chance . All you would have is a dead horse(s)
Besides its taking our freedom away that our people fought so had for . They can come in and take our land and give it to the developers what next.
If we don’t stop this will be next . The mark of the BEAST !

NAIS epitomizes the fascist direction that our country is being driven by both Democraps and Republicans. Keep your powder dry…
Comment Michael R Oberndorf, RPA — April 5, 2006 @ 8:25 am
I voted, posted the link to a Country website, and emailed some friends. I sure hope that the poll results will find their way to Secretary of Ag’s office so he can get the right story! I *know* he wants to tell the truth, just hasn’t had access to it yet.

NAIS should NOT be mandatory. In my opinion it should be cancelled. It appears to be yet another boondoggle implemented by the Dept of Ag. to justify it’s existance.

For the love of all that is holy to each individual, NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment Katziel Kennedy — April 5, 2006 @ 10:52 am
With two old dogs and two old cats why should they be identified? How many homes have just their house pets. Another spy system? Where has our republic government gone to?
Comment Rosalie Dunlap — April 5, 2006 @ 11:46 am
This whole idea is ridiculous. I can see livestock as in farm animals, but family pets????? Insanity!!!! Shades of “Big Brother”. Next thing they will be wanting to microchip us.
Comment Deborah Lewis — April 5, 2006 @ 6:43 pm
I WROTE TO A SENATOR FROM INDIANA AND HE DOESN’T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH NAIS. GUESS WHAT, HE DOESN’T GET OUR VOTE. WE HAVE DAIRY GOATS, MINI DONKEY AND CHICKENS,AND DUCKS. THE GOATS AND THE DONKEY ARE REG WITH TATTOS. IT IS THE BIG CATTLE PERSONS WHO SHOULD BE THE ONES TO WATCH FOR ANY KIND OF ILLNESS IN THEIR STOCK. THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE CHIPS IMPLANTED AND THINK ITS GREAT. THIS IS TRULY THE STARTING ON THE SIGN OF THE BEAST. IN GOD WE TRUST
Comment LINDA HUFFER — April 5, 2006 @ 7:46 pm
This is crazy a $5 chip in a chicken that we can sell for maybe $2?
Calling every time I transport my pony?
Heck in Illinois we have the import #s and no one checks them. I can’t remember the last time I was at a Show or event and anyone asked to see my Coggins before I unloaded my animals. A state cop wouldn’t know a bay from a chestnut and a sock from a stocking.
We have applied for a premisis ID, but chipping all our animals would make us get rid of them because of the costs. Talk about getting rid of the small breeders/farmers.
I feel it should be mandatory for food animals on large farms. But for the average pet, horse, pony owner it is an expense that can not be afforded and an intrusion on our privacy.
With the equine slaughter houses closed the affect on our good stock prices have dwindled and this action would make it nearly impossible to get out of a foal the cost put in to produce it.
Comment Cynthia Wolff — April 6, 2006 @ 7:11 am
The livestock rancher and farmer live under the same Constitution as all of you who say “it’s ok to make the farmer or, the big cattle persons” This is pure communism, no matter who has to comply! Just a scape goat for the meat processors and the USDA, who we hire to prevent what this chip is meant for.
Comment Odie — April 6, 2006 @ 7:30 am
The farmer and rancher live under the same Constitution as every else!! This is pure communism no matter who has to comply. There are already measures in place to prevent what this chip is acclaimed for!
Comment Odie Prather — April 6, 2006 @ 7:41 am
Larger scale farmers already keep track of each animal and have inspectable records. Thats just in the nature of keeping hundreds of animals and watching the bottom line. NAIS is a burden on everyone, but it galls the small farmer so much because many raise their own livestock simply as an avocation or to escape the reliance on distant and unknown producers as well as to disconnect from an economic system that seems to want to turn products and consumers into barcodes. It is a mistake to assume that all ‘large’ producers are on board with this, or should be subject to it. Many of these operations are family farms with their back against the same economic wall that small farmers are against.
Comment Alan LePage — April 6, 2006 @ 1:50 pm
NAIS - No WAY! I say! Be it for large or small farmers. It’s a huge slap in the face. Don’t you think the “terrorists” are watching all this as it is? If we can’t fight our Own Government to prevent them from forcing all to comply with such a ludicrous program, then for sure the terrorists know they’ve got an Easy way in to hit MANY many American’s. Who’s to say they don’t implant a virus into the chips? Who’s to say they don’t just give the USDA’s puter a virus and mess up everyone’s numbers. What happens if their computer crashes or it’s hacked? Then what?
NAIS is an outrage. Some ppl are still not getting it. This effects Everyone that buys American Beef, American Poultry, American Food stuffs of all kinds.
If NAIS goes through, I know for certain, I will no longer be able to have fresh eggs or a trek through the country side on the back of my horse.
This country was built on the backs of horses for goodness sakes! Roads are built to fit the width of 2 horses and a carriage. If it weren’t for horses, where would we be today?
NAIS… Is one of the worst Ideas the US Government has EVER come up with. We need to fight and fight LOUDLY!
If that means the whole country goes to jail then I think we should all be prepared to do just that!
Comment Leigh — April 6, 2006 @ 8:17 pm
NAIS
Not only no but hell no. The US Government spent 20 years training me to kill and teaching our young men to kill. Now Dictators in my own country is dictating to me to support a useless program. NAIS has nothing to do with disease!! It’s about money and control of American citizens.I defended My country thru 2 wars. Now my Goverment wants me to give up my rights without a fight. Our borders in shambles and now Americans not only compete for our Jobs but now our very elected officials turn against us. People either we stand together or we fall one by one. Hitler proved a defenseless country is a ruined country. God blessed this country just 200 years ago. Now a single Judge has the power to remove that blessing. God can not save this country. It’s up to our people. I’m off my soap box. people rebel now; while you can.
Comment Charles Smith — April 7, 2006 @ 10:35 am
Another case of history repeating itself! Visions of NAZI Germany and TOTAL GOVERMENT control! Just cooperate EAT THEIR FOOD and DRINK the KOOL-AID and your goverment will take care of you! There are actually people on this planet as I type this, that have had to fight there goverment for the right to gather RAIN WATER TO DRINK! Thank God those people won!
You see it does not matter which puppet you put in the White House they all march to the same drummer!(Sorry to say I even voted for Bush.) I grew up around Washington D.C. and can tell you there is absolutly no difference between the DEMS and the GOP! These parties are being run by and are part of the New World Order!
WHY WERE OUR BORDERS LEFT WIDE OPEN BY BUSH while were fighting a war on TERRORISM? Very Strange! Well in my humble opinion, this was candy coated & sold to the American people as the Mexican Job Fair! When I beleive this is a slow and steady blending of every culture on the planet to come to the U.S. & slowly break down the fabric of our country and by the time we wake up the dirty deed is done! You awake to a New World Order! A society run by BIG CORPERATIONS and ONE BIG Goverment! Think I’m kidding WATCH! They have lots in store for us!
But there is still hope!Fortunatly for now we can vote! Stick together many voices are louder! Form groups! Support your small local farmer(s)! Do not by TYSON chicken or any major player that is in bed w/ your politicians! Write your congressman and senators! Flood the USDA w/ so many emails they will need Bill Gates to fix there computers! Finally tell as many people as you can about what AGRA BIZ and NAIS have in store. Just remember the numbering starts with the animals, YOUR NEXT unless you act!
Comment Jay Bowman — April 8, 2006 @ 1:17 am
I’d like a one-page sign to put up at Whole Foods warning customers they may not be able to buy the nice small-farm animal products they love if this goes through. You have a ton of information on your site, anything jump out at you that’s eye-catching & succinct?
Comment Renate Haeckler — April 9, 2006 @ 10:07 am
Renate, let me know if this is what you need. If not, make suggestions as to what you would like to see and I’ll see what I can do for you.

In order to push this system ,the government WILL infect animals!!!
The best bet is to get with the people in your community and just refuse to follow it. (And arm the hell out of yourselves ! )
Comment jim — April 10, 2006 @ 7:21 am
I had that thought myself. My biosecure coop won’t be anymore if some gov’t inspector bullies his way in after being on 25 other farms that day and tracks in something that otherwise the chickens never would have been exposed to. Maybe on purpose? Then they can point to that and say, SEE? We need NAIS!
Comment Cynthia B. — April 10, 2006 @ 9:07 am
Was good to see Jim,s comment. I suspect he is very close to the truth. This “program” is just like many others, including the current immigration issue. It is about gaining control - over every one and every aspect of life. There will be the employment of every imaginable tactic to see that control take effect. As has a;ready been occuring in the past to further this goal. Have you noticed that every new Federal law seems to brand the “perpetrator” a felon, one who loses his voting and self protection rights? These are the two things that a dictatorship fears the most - the ability to speak out against wrongs and the ability to protect ones self from wrongs. behind the obvious wrongs of the NAIS are the true intentions - dictatorial control of everyone and every thing

The statement that should be feared most: “I’m from the government and I’m here to help!” (says it all)

Comment Karen Dawes — April 14, 2006 @ 7:29 am
Should NAIS be mandatory? Sure, and then we can all live happily ever after as little robots that eat the genetically modified, poisonous slop they serve at the microchip- checking counter! Then we can all RFID our animals, our property, ourselves, and then when the govt refuses to listen to the people forever, and people get mad about it, the govt will just wipe your bank accounts clean and you will have nothing. And THAT will shut you up like a good little robotic citizen! They will say “pay your increased taxes” and you will or they will put your bank account to zero, they will say “do this, do that, give us your guns, or we’ll zero your bank accounts”, etc etc.. And by the way, that IS what happened in Australia when they were forced to give up their guns. The ones who refused had their bank accounts frozen until they submitted. Interesting eh..?
So, sure the NAIS should be mandatory for everybody who has already declared themselves as BRAIN DEAD and is begging for someone to destroy every ounce of freedom they’ve ever had. The NAIS is a facist plan and anybody for it, is only for it because they stand to make a lot of money from it, which only ends up being big corporations and Govt. We were all fine since the dawn of man without it, and anything RFID should be treated like the most vile thing to ever be conceived of by man. RFID should be considered a Curse word, and by the way, the NAIS acronym forgot the “Z” in the middle-NAZIS!!….

i keep hearing from everyone about voting. but voting has no effect, bush still fixed votes and got elected. i don’t believe one second that he won either two elections fairly. Did you know that in Iraq they cannot pick or grow or cultivate thier own seeds, agriculture, or trees any more, because of an arrangement of the US occupation. That Monsanto now has thier agriculture locked in. I am worried that this is it, we are done already. Monsanto and other corporations, Pharma, Oil are responsible for this war. I bet they paid the families of the 911 hijackers good money to make this happen. A few years ago i would have said that was an irrational thought, but after seeing what is taking place in the world now…….the state of affairs this world is in now is unimaginable. I could almost guarantee the causes this government cites for war were practically made up so INDUSTRY can assume power. NOONE SHOULD BE PATENTING LIFE, that is the first thing that needs to change in this government. This is what we have to stop. I don’t blame the rest of the world for hating the USA, but they don’t realize, it’s not us, but it’s the massive corporations that have infected us like a rapidly spreading cancer.
[Completely agreed on the patenting of life issue. See this post about the Iraq ag situation. -WJ]
Comment irene — June 19, 2006 @ 11:07 am
my feed store ‘Ricks saddle shop” they didn’t like my NoNAIS flyers, Neither did Agway. Be careful people….feed stores only care about what the department of agriculture says, not thier customers. they are subject to fines and intimidation by the authorities and really don’t care about the little people.
[The stores vary tremendously in their policies based most of all on the managers. Our local Agway was overjoyed to have posters against NAIS to hang, fliers to pass out and bumper stickers. Keep trying. -WJ]
Comment irene — June 19, 2006 @ 11:14 am
Its sad if some businesses don’t understand the issue but here I have had very good success with Agway and hardware and feedstores I have found only one person who initally wasn’t against NAIS but after a bit of conversation he came around it was simply a matter of showing him the “plan”and as Walter said just keep trying, most folks will come around, and those who don’t,don’t.You can teach as you go,spread the word and then if you must, take your business elsewhere.

I think they should implant chips to track the location and activies suspected terrorist and leave our farm animals and pets alone.
Comment Bob E. Spurgeon — September 16, 2006 @ 7:38 pm
By tagging and tracking law abiding Americans, they’ll find the terrorists by process of elimination. They’ll be the only ones that aren’t tagged. Kind of like how we went after Saddam because we couldn’t find Osama - go after what you CAN find.
