TN Bill Refuses NAIS

Alert - State, News — walterj 1:48 am

A bit of good news from the great state of Tennessee:

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 44, Chapter 7, is amended by adding
the following as a new, appropriately designated part: Section 44-7-501. At no time shall department of agriculture funds or any other state funds be appropriated to effectuate the implementation of the National Animal Identification System (NAIS).
HOUSE BILL 3297
Introduced by Frank Niceley

I hope that legislators in other states will find their courage and fight against the USDA’s unconstitutional implementation of the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). NAIS should be kept 100% voluntary and safeguards should be implemented to prevent it from trampling on our Constitutional rights.

This is matched by Tennessee Senate Bill 3258 sponsored by Senator Tim Burchett.

Senator Burchett and Representative Niceley should be applauded for standing up for reason and sanity against the heavy handed pressures of the USDA’s attempt to take away our traditional Constitutional rights to farm and live a rural life. We don’t need a nanny state government interference micro-managing our lives. May the legislators in my own state of Vermont, as well as other states, find their courage to prevent government interference in the lives of citizens.

Tennessee residents may wish to write their representatives who’s email and postal addresses can be found at the state web site.

  1. That’s outstanding. I didn’t think any state legislatures had the spine to do something like this. Too be sure, they should be applauded and held up as a role model for the other states.

  2. excellent to know! now if we can just get the folks in texas to do the same thing. if enough states take this stance we might get some national attention!

  3. Thing is - did you notice they said no *state funds* will be applied to NAIS - does not say *anything* about federal funds…

  5. Please send the nonais flyer to chambers of commerce in small/medium cities also to rural churches and feed stores etc. This animal ID will wreck the economies of small towns dependent on farmers. It will increase the price of food unbelievably.

  6. Hi Darla,

That is a great idea but I’m just one little pig farmer out in the middle of the woods. I can’t send the handout to all the chamber’s of commerce. So, here is where you, and everyone, can help. Print out 200 copies of the handout and poster. It will only cost you a couple of bucks. Distributed those to everyone in your area that you can. As more and more people do this more and more people know about it and then they do it which gets the word out to more people who then do it and before you know it we have a genuine, dyed-in-the-wool, grassroots movement on our hands!

    Cheers,

    Walter Jeffries

  8. I’ve just been to the Tennessee wep site. The bills mentioned in your alert have not passed as of yet. They have come out of the sup committee. They were both sent to the Ag.Committee today. I will be posting the committe members names at the Tennessee against NAIS web site.
    Thanks for all your efforts

  9. I am so excited about this!! I really hope it passes. I’ve been writing and calling our reps. here in DE and am hoping that my “comments” are noticed. I’m also planning on distributing some literature if I can. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any other Delawarians who seem to be concerned about this. If you’re out there….speak up!!
