Microchip Dogs & Cats

Background Info — walterj 10:25 am

I told you so. There, I said it. I have said all along that NAIS would get extended to our pets and then humans. People doubted me. I dearly wish I were wrong. They are trying to pass Bill A09775 in New York that states:

An amendment that requires dog owners to implant a microchip that includes owner`s contact information and dog’s medical history. A registry of dogs shall be created at the time of dog licensing. This registry will be made available to veterinarians, shelters and kennels for the purposes of identification.

Remember that on a federal level the (in)Humane Society and P e t a are pushing through PAWS, legislation that could make it illegal or expensive to have breeding animals. This will hurt pet owners, make it hard to get good quality working dogs and be disastrous to farmers in one more way.

In addition to our livestock we have livestock guardian dogs. We have a new litter every year or two because it takes a pack of dogs to protect against packs of coyotes, bear, cougar, fisher cats, hawks, etc. With their high intelligence, thick double fur coat, size, temperament, instincts and being raised up on a farm from birth, our dogs are uniquely qualified for our situation of extreme cold winters, herding and guarding. You can not just go down to the pound and get any old mutt to do the job. The dogs must be raised in the environment they work in as adults with the livestock they will learn to guard.

The catch is we don’t keep all of our dogs, some we train and sell as working dogs to other farm families and homesteaders. Other farmers and homesteaders need a source of good quality working dogs. PAWS would destroy this or at the very least make it unnecessarily difficult and expensive to raise traditional working dogs as has been done for centuries, all under the guise of stopping puppy mills. Puppy mills are bad but the way they are setting up the laws they are throwing the baby (good responsible breeders) out with the bath water (puppy mills). That is bad legislation.

These nut cases from the in-Human.e Society and P e t a would take away our ability to keep our own breed. Is destroying small farms and homesteads part of their goal? I already know that they want to end the natural strong relationship between humans and domestic animals.

Then lets think about the American Disabilities Act. A lot of people have companion working dogs that help them live better lives. I see PAWS and Bill A09775 going head to head in conflict with ADA. Legal challenges right there never mind all the Constitutional rights they are trampling on.

If you value your pets, working companion dogs and other species then you need to fight PAWS, dog breed restriction laws, NAIS and other insidious invasions of our traditional rights. A big BOOO -HISSSS and thumbs down to NY State for even attempting this.

So how does this apply to humans you ask? Well, what do you think REAL ID is all about. One of King George’s pet plans. Okay, a hint, rearrange the letters. REAL ID -> RE ID -> RFID… No, this is not simple paranoia at work. The REAL ID plan is all about putting RFID into your wallet on your new drivers license. This will be readable by government (and criminal or corporate) ID readers at a distance of up to 30 feet. But it goes further. Check out this article about former Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tommy Thompson who now is on the board of directors of Applied Digital, makers of the VeriChip RFID tracking chip for people and pets.

“It’s very beneficial and it’s going to be extremely helpful and it’s a giant step forward to getting what we call an electronic medical record for all Americans,” he told CBS MarketWatch.” -WorldNetDaily

Yet, according to the article above, Thompson himself is reluctant to get chipped! They want to chip our pets and us but won’t do it for themselves. What does that suggest to you?

While you’re at it, also check out this article about Senator Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) introducing S. 1262 which will better let the government track your RFID “health” data. It’s not just the Republican Administration who is pushing this vile invasion of our privacy. It is the whole Govi-Corp. Also read this for more thrills and chills.

  1. Dam goverment. Thats absurd. It is one thing to make something like chipping available as an option to everybody and maybe standardize it so it will be working everywhere the same but it is totally and absolutely horrendously awful four them to be forcing it on people. I have herd of cases where pets died becasue of the chips!!!! Is the government going to make up for that? HOw can they? What if they chipp a child and the kid dies? Then what? Sorry mam your kid died of the chip. Here’s $10 to go buy another child. By. JUESUS!!!!!

  2. Isn’t this exactly what Pentacostals fear? Assigning everyone a number and they cannot buy or sell without it (one of the lead-ups to the anti-Christ)?

Don’t know if this would be useful or not. Some pentacostals want the end to come, others don’t.

  3. I chipped my cat so she could get returned to me. It was expensive. Like $65 or so. No big deal and it was worth it. BUTTT I don’t want the government telling me I have to do it and it is rediculous to be tagging every chicken and other small animal that won’t live long.

    Comment Anna — February 20, 2006 @ 3:15 pm

  4. The biggest problem with this whole nais thing is that it is letting the government agents do things without oversite or control from the courts. This will definitely lead to huge abusess of power in little fiefdoms. That is not acceptible. It is what my great great great something grandfather faught against in the revolutionary war. If the government doesn’t start observing the Constitution we are going to have another revolution. I have my guns. Do you have yours?

    Comment Johnny N — March 5, 2006 @ 8:18 am

  5. May I ask why our beloved gov’t doesn’t pay the desperately needed attention and money on more pressing issues in this country such as the large percentage of homeless hurricane victims (people AND animals) in the south? They blew it 6 months ago when it came to being prepared for an emergency such as Katrina. So if they don’t start getting their act together, they will have many less to worry about tagging and a new problem…where to bury those that died from hunger and disease in the richest country in the world. Do you think THEY were concerned about these so-called homeland security issues?

    Comment Tina Orosz — March 6, 2006 @ 11:44 pm

  6. tina- lots of those hurricane victims should have gotten jobs and be supporting themselves like the rest of the solid citizens in this country.

  7. The wildest part of this is that the NAIS is not going to do anything to protect us from bird flu or mad cows or any of that stuff. I love the way the government keeps chaning the reason for it. It just so prooves how unneeded the whole thing is.

    Comment Art Doreene — March 9, 2006 @ 6:05 pm

  8. I am not about to register my animals or my home. This is bogus. Doesnt the gov have anything better to do?!!!

    Comment Zoro — March 12, 2006 @ 4:24 pm

  9. I’m all for microchipping beloved pets. When I finally can afford a pet, I will microchip them because I live in a highly populated area, and, in the event that they do escape, they will be more likely to return to me. However, I come from a small town in a small state (go Vermont!) and am 100% supportive of the small farmer. This plan would destroy them. It would be ridiculous. And microchipping humans? The day our government requires humans to have microchips, is the day I move to another country…hmm, Australia looks nice….

    Comment Erica — March 21, 2006 @ 12:31 pm

  10. Fast forward 20 years from now people. All animals are chipped, all humans are chipped, Potential employers scan you, find out you have an illness and you do not get hired. Criminals buy black market chip readers, scan the crowd and Poof! your lifes work is liquidated within a week. No longer do you have the freedom to move about in society un-noticed. Your every move is on camera and in a database and every infraction comes with it a heavy fine. YOUR FREEDOM IS GONE!….And what really bugs me is that 99% of Americans will sit back and let this happen to them because they don’t have the guts to stand up against the government.

    Comment Jim — March 26, 2006 @ 2:37 pm

  11. Another War for Independence? You Bet!! It will come..it should come!!! A PATRIOT is always ready to defend his country…against its government!
IS THERE ANY REASON CONCERNED PARTIES CANNOT UNITE AND BEGIN AND FINISH A LAWSUIT AGAINST OUR GOVERNMENT AND/OR THE USDA?????I would love to hear some input on this thought…keep on keeping on!!!

    Comment lynn — June 9, 2006 @ 1:07 pm

  12. PLEASE START A UNION OF INTERESTED-IN-THIS-ISSUE INDIVIDUALS/ORGS/FARMERS/PET OWNERS TO SUBMIT A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE USDA AND THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.SOMEBODY DOOOOOOOOO SOMETHING POWERFUL TO STOP THIS MONSTER IN ITS TRACKS!!!!

  13. A lawsuit will probably be an option at some point, but it also is time for all freedom loving people to get out and vote, and not for the same old socialist politicians that get reelected everytime! Its time to search out those who will vote along constitutional lines and represent the rights of we the people, those republicans and democrats that have stood up for the constitution should be supported, but it appears certain that the two major parties have decided that the law( constitution) is not their problem so that leaves us with one other option,a third party, there is a constitution party in America, and it would seem logical that if our politicians refuse to obey the constitution then we should vote in folks who have the constitution as their platform,we can no longer afford as Americans to allow our gov’t to be run by a bunch of power hungry, corporate butt kissing, elitist, globalist morons who continually ignore and scorn the American people and all that we stand for, instead taking dirty money from large international corporations that are systematicly destroying our nation and our way of life. One of my biggest problems talking to people especialy politicians is the stupid statement that says”Well you know if this is from the feds we have to comply,@#%&*! read Marbury VS Madison for starters,it was basicly ruled by the supreme court that a law that is against the constitution is not a law! There are other precidents,we must educate ourselves to the consitution so we know what rights we have and then fight this NAIS and every other stupid socialcommie program that violates our God given rights! ETERNAL VIGILENCE IS LIBERTYS PRICE!!

    Comment LEE — June 9, 2006 @ 5:34 pm

  14. Lee, I had to laugh when I read your comment, because I love it when people talk dirty about Big Government. You expressed my sentiments perfectly. I’ve said to people before that if diplomacy with Big Government was food, I would definitely starve. I don’t believe in sugar-coating my sentiments either. Your comment is priceless. The only thing I would say about a third party is that if one ever became a real threat to the 2-party system, the globalists would take it out. Thanks, and give us more of your thoughts.

  15. Not another war. But, the 4th of July is coming up. Perhaps that would be a good day to stage nationwide protests and rallies. Just put the word out to have everyone show up at their closest government office. And have those to can travel to their state capitals. (9 hours away for me, so not really an option). Or march in your local 4th of July Parade with signs / banners etc. Get the word out! Independent homesteaders and farmers want independence!

  16. I was reading a comment posted earlier this month on stopanimalid about PAWS being dead(?) I did a search and came up with this post:

    link

The person who posted, Karen, says PAWS is dead. She says, “Take it from a retired career lobbyist, this was an amazing achievement!”

What can we learn from her about stopping NAIS? I have just started this search, but wanted to post this as soon as possible. Maybe someone who reads this was involved in the PAWS battle and can give us insight. Karen gives a website, which I will check out. These same people should be interested in helping us stop NAIS, as they also have “animals”.

If this was posted here before, I missed it.

    Comment Texas Goat Gal — October 14, 2006 @ 12:50 pm

  17. The website referred to in the “PAWS is Dead” post is the Sportsmen’s and Animal Owners’ Voting Alliance at:

    link

It is a goldmine of dog and cat associations, and information on politicians, etc.

  18. Could not find a contact on SAOVA’s website, so I e-mailed the North Carolina Responsible Animal Owners Alliance (NCRAOA). They were mentioned in the original post as an organization that deserved “special accolades for their tireless cooperative efforts with SAOVA against PAWS.” I realize that the PAWS issue may have been dropped simply because NAIS will eventually include furry pets, too, but still….

  19. The people who show dogs just need to boycott AKC. That is where they make the money from Registrations, pedigree , showing fees. Trust me AKC would stand up and do a about face. They have already lost a lot of business.

    Comment Gisela — October 14, 2006 @ 11:21 pm

  20. I received an e-mail response to mine from the North Carolina Responsible Animal Owners Alliance, and was given to go-ahead to post it here:

“Thank you for being pro-active!! Please know that both SAOVA and NCRAOA are monitoring the NAIS situation. While NAIS at this time is voluntary, we are watching carefully for signs of bills being introduced that will make it mandatory. I have agreed to join nonais.org to monitor and report back to our Board of Directors.

The PAWS fiasco was beaten down by persistence. It is not a done deal yet — there is still a very small chance they will attempt to railroad it through the lame duck session in November. The PAWS opposition came from hundreds of very small groups that came together in a central spot and made their opposition known to all who would listen. No Nais has this in place. We have to be prepared to stand on the street corner and tell anyone who will listen. Apathy is rampant among non informed folks, and most don’t want to get involved, as it won’t directly affect them — that’s where they are wrong….

NAIS will be a huge fight, and I appreciate the people who are already out there ready to fight. Be assured that the situation is being watched, and we will join you soon. Meanwhile our group is under siege by counties attempting to pass bad animal ordinances, and those require our immediate attention. They must be stopped at the local level. NAIS is a bad concept, and the support will be there when it needs to be defeated.

In the interim, I will pass along information to the pet-law, NC pet law, and NCRAOA Board.

    Thank you for contacting us!

    Natalie Rowntree
    NCRAOA Board of Directors”

NAIS has been added to their alert page, including a variety of articles. To visit their website go to:

    link

Maybe we could, also, go to the link in my comment #17, and see if there is an association in our area that is fighting PAWS. We could help each other.

Natalie, thanks again for your quick action on this issue. May nothing but good come from all our efforts.

  21. I work in one of those shelters that has to KILL over 15,0000 dogs and cats EVERY year.

We hold them, sometimes much as 30 days to no avail.

There are too many dogs and cats. Sifting it out, and making people take a little care for their breeding of animals will not inflate the problem of unwanted pets in this state, but rather would make it more feasible to take care of the ones you have.

This microchipping system doesn’t do any harm and it prevents pet owners from just letting loose animals who will end up at our shelter. It also will prevent backyard breeding and other practices…did you know that 80% of our dogs in the shelter are Pitt Bulls? They are overbred.

There has to be an answer.

I don’t like Big Brother either and I don’t like him sniffing down my back as a dog owner, but there just isn’t much else we can do to stop these pets from roaming freely.

Maybe if someone knows if their dog gets out, it will be found by a shelter and they will be fined, they will put up a better fence, or try a little harder to keep the little fellow inside!

Do you know how many owners just don’t come get their dogs once they realize they are in shelters? They think, oh well, Buddy will now cost me fifty dollars in fines and neuter fees to rescue, so I won’t go get him. Let him become someone else’s problem…but Buddy doesn’t get adopted. Instead, he pleads to the bars to open, so he can go home…and he pines for his owners, with his little heart breaking, daily, till nobody adopts him and then he is finally put to sleep.

There are 15,000+ Buddies in our shelter every year and they are left there for various reasons. Unwanted, owner turn-ins, wandering, stray…

Maybe this is JUST what we need.

Breeders are breeding, without reason, backyard dogs…I know someone breeding a poodle to a labrador right now to get labradoodles. Neither dog is papered. Neither dog owner has a clue about pregnancy care. What can I do? I can’t!

Breeders doing it for monetary gain will have to keep the puppy mills out of circulation …YAYYYYYYYY …this isn’t a bad thing! This is a good one!

Try to see it from the ligislation’s point of view instead of becoming defensive.

If you’re such good dog owners, as you say (and I am sure you all are), then you have nothing to worry about, now do you?

[I notice you attempt to publish as “Anonymous” instead of giving your name. If you really believe what you are saying then why do you attempt to hide your identity? I suggest you go read this post about the USDA Terrorist - you are not quite as anonymous as you would like to think. On the web your every move is tagged and tracked. Let’s keep it from being that way in the physical world. As to your comments, they are typical fascist/socialist big government Nanny State blather: “You know better than us so you’re going to control us for our own good and punish good people in order to get the bad people.” It doesn’t work and is just an excuse for totalitarianism. The reality is you are ignorant and trying to force your ignorance on others. -WJ]

  22. Not only is CA trying to wipe out dog ownership with what amounts to a $150 fine for having a breeding dog, now Walla Walla, WA is imposing a curfew for cats.

If your cat isn’t in after dark, or if you leave food out for it you could be fined $500. How will they tell it’s your cat? Hmmmm, seeing that Eastern WA is in favor of NAIS the conclusion is obvious. If they can order you to keep your pet in, order you to have your dog spayed or neutered by 4 months of age, than they can order you to chip it.

Look who’s behind these laws–the anti-society Society. This is a creeping malaise. The spread of apathy is leading to a totalitarian state of affairs. Keep my barn cats in? Neuter and spay my rare-breed, landrace farm dogs? Ya, right after I willingly hand over my arms and invite the U$DA over for target practice on my herd–NOT! Not now, not ever.

1000’s of pet owners will be impacted by legislation like this. Where are they? Where is the outrage? Where–other than right here reading this–are the people who value freedom, personal rights and common sense? I shudder to think what the future will be like.
