RFID Chips can be Hacked

Background Info, Commentary — walterj 5:50 am

The RFID chips the USDA wants to implant in animals, use for tags and which is to be used for your drivers license can be hacked. Imagine someone sitting down next to you in the subway or walking past you on the street. They have a wristwatch RFID scanner. Your REAL ID screams out your personal identification number for all to hear. The criminal captures it. They then implant that number in another RFID chip so they can be you. They can access your bank account. They can enter your home. When they commit a crime the police will know it was you. Oh, Joy! Better get used to those fashionable stripped pajamas and orange coveralls. Maybe Martha has some knitting patterns we can borrow.

[Update: Someone sent me this very interesting article which has a discussion of somone copying someone else’s implanted RFID chip codes and using them exactly like I mentioned above. It’s a brave new world… -WVJ]

  1. Hi. Just wondering if you allow people to put the code for the great sheep picture (top) on their blogs with a link to your site? Would love to advertise it on my site. Thanks.

  2. Yes! Please do use the NoNAISewe logo. Here is the link where you can pickup graphics to use for buttons on your web site, blog and make bumper stickers, etc:

    http://nonais.org/wp-content/imagesmisc/

The PNG file format images are the best quality and include transparency like shown on the NoNAIS.org web site logo. The JPG are the next best. GIF is the lowest quality.

    The link back would be:

    http://NoNAIS.org

If you need help setting it up let me know. Do you know how to do the necessary HTML code?

I need to write a page about this as I get this question a lot. Where do you think I should put the info so people will see it?

  3. I suggest information on linking to No NAIS be put in the FAQ column (”Link to NAIS”) where visitors will find the images, HTML snippets on how to link, and the disclaimer about linking to the site.

NOTE: Before you leave a link see the note below. Several comments that are filled with links are being held in moderation because I don't have the time to fix them so they can post properly. Don't let that happen to your comments... Code the links per the directions below. It is easy to do when you're leaving the comment. It is time consuming for me to do later. -WJ

Comments are moderated so there may be some delay in comments appearing.

NOTE: Links must be hand coded as described below. If you fail to hand code your links then I must do it by hand instead before your comment will post. This causes a delay, sometimes of many days or even weeks, before your comment will actually appear so other people can read it. Yes, you can see your comment but nobody else can until it gets moderated and the links get fixed. Please use the proper linking technique demonstrated below in the "Useable HTML". -WJ

This web site looks worst in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 under Microsoft Windows. Gee... Any coincidence? If you are having trouble, might I suggest getting FireFox, Opera, Safari, iCab or some other browser. Anything but Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 under Microsoft Windows. *grrr* If you are using another browser and have problems, please do let me know.
