  1. Hey all! Id like to take a moment here and address my friends in the state of Pennsylvania!

Rep Sam Rohrer(R) is seeking the nommination in the spring to be the new govenor of this commonwealth .

As many of you know Sam has been very outspoken in his support of small farmers and has been a strong supporter of anti NAIS legislation here in Pa.

He is also very supportive of selling “raw milk”(real milk) and opposes the feds and the state ag dept working to stop farmers from selling to willing buyers!

I just spent the day with Sam on the campaign trail and asked him about these issues in private and in front of a crowd, when he spoke against NAIS he got a great ovation from the crowd,it did my heart good to see the people in this area get excited about this and other small farm issues!

I want folks to know that the republican machine here in Pa supports Attorny General Tom Corbett(R) for gov, and they are not happy that Sam is making waves at the grass roots level, and are doing dirty tricks to try to keep Sam from being able to get the word out!

I wasnt very political until Nais came along, since then I have gotten deeper and deeper into it,mostly it stinks, but every so often I find a real statesman and Sam is one!

We have a real chance here to change alot of things about this state from killing a NAIS in our state to getting rid of property taxes completely, its going in the right direction!

Take a look over at SamRohrer.com

NAIS is not going to just go away,we need to get anti nais bills passed in every state before it comes back, Sam has pledged to kill any attempt to impose it on us and to put an end to the BS that USDA/PDA/FDA attempts to do to our people,PLEASE take time to look at this guy and support this agenda,we have to stop all this stuff now, this may be our chance! The machine says we cant do it,I say we can and we will!! Thanks Lee

  3. Sam Rohrer wrote one of the best articles on Real ID in August, 4, 2008. Since REAL ID and NAIS have so much in common…and REAL ID was rejected by many states… here is the article…Penn. is lucky to have such a representative.. so go to newswithviews.com/guest_opinion/guest128.htm

    Comment The Phantom — March 3, 2010 @ 7:21 am

  4. Sam Rohrer will be at a meet up near where I live tomorrow night. I plan to be there and listen to him and bring up these topics if given the chance.

    Comment Barbara — March 3, 2010 @ 7:35 am

  5. Phantom, we are blessed to have Sam,I wish we had a hundred more, and you know the sad part is that they are out there amoungst we the people, undiscovered!

It is my prayer that more will come into office who think like Sam,that he is a public servant, not an overlord!

One of the problems I am seeing is the arrogance of the “machine”(both parties) they seem to think they can pick and appoint who they want into office and all we the people can do is go along with them…this jerks my chain!
Its gone on too long and now is the time to put it to an end! This nation belongs to freemen and women, not to political parties and certainly not to political ideoligies that are anti-freedom!

People here in Pa have a chance to change alot of things,we need to do so,we may not get another chance the way we are sliding down hill as a nation and as a state, this is true in every state!

Barbara,by all means go and listen to what Sam has to say,it is a departure from the way things have been done, but we all know whats been done aint working,we have gotten too far from the founders vision for a free and independent people,we have to find our way back to what worked,of course one man cant change everything but he can set the course and we all know what Rendell and his “course” has done to this state! I think youll be pleased by what you hear.

  6. Have you all heard about the new regulations that outlaw muscovy ducks starting March 31, 2010?
Muscovies are a non-mallard derived duck a lot of people love. They are accepted in the American Poultry Association’s Standard of Excellence as a show duck. People appreciate their friendly nature and it is probably the best broody in the domestic duck world. The fact that it never quacks, only making small quiet noises makes it particularly attractive to the new urban minifarms. Unfortunately some irresponsible people have let their muscovies loose and a feral population has survived, mostly in southern states as this duck is native to warmer climates. So the FWS has created this onerous legeslation that will basically wipe out the business of many breeders throughout the country who cater to the many lovers of this unique duck. The new regulations mandate that no one may posess for any reason a muscovy obtained in any way after March 31st unless they live in certain Texas counties or have a certain meat permit. Muscovys obtained before that date will be permitted. Wild muscovy populations are going to be “irradicated”. This law was written under the authority of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. This is a huge ramping up of federal power over the property rights of individuals, and an apparant give-away to agribusiness. There is a petition protesting this on the thepetitionsite.com called Do not outlaw the Muscovy Duck. For a more thorough discussion on this google backyard chickens new regulations muscovy

[This is quite complicated. See here for discussion on the BackYardChickens forum. -WJ]

    Comment M Evans — March 5, 2010 @ 11:04 am

  7. Well using this illogical argument they can declare chickens and most any other farm birds to be in their jurisdiction and give the Game Commision authority to enforce their rules, hell is way too nice a place for these nazis!

I am working in by “secret laboratory” on a cross between muscovies and wolverines, they only eat govt employees which helps keep the local parasite populations down,I will be releasing these into the wild shortly and into major metro areas where the aforementioned parasites are quite numerous; this shold bring things under control shortly:)

Seriously, they are crazy if they think this will work!

  8. I have been on the horn talking to a person involved in muscovy breeding who has a major business and sells alot of muscovys, they informed me that until I called them they had never heard of this, and promised to investigate it and get back to me at which time I will pass on the info.

How is it that they can pull off a dirty trick like this without people knowing? Forget the BS that they have been asking for input since 08,that doesnt fly! They have purposely kept this low key knowing we would fight them, and we will!

If they get this one, which species is next?

I am pretty connected these days as many of you are and this isnt somthing I have been in the know about except for hearing rumors a few weeks ago.

The fact that the people whos livelihoods are dependent on this breed know nothing concerns me greatly and the fact that they can unilaterally decree private property to be under their control infuriates me.

They “create” outlaws of people who just continue doing what theyve always done, between obama care and NAIS and this I am going to be in trouble!
Muscovys are gonna be black market contraband!?

Well at least they are quiet,I plan to get some more before the end of the month(if I can find some) looks like we are gonna have to act like drug dealers and hide our ducks…unbelievable!

I did make a bunch of calls today to Reps(fed)telling them to get busy and fight this(none of them seem to know about it either…sheesh! Just when I think insanity cant get worse, politicians and bureaucrats prove me miserably wrong!

I am not sure on all the ins and outs but it seems to me there ought to be grounds for a lawsuit because of the “property rights”issues involved.

  9. New development on the muscovy front! George Allen, Chief of the Migratory Birds division at Fish and Wildlife Service has stated some willingness to be flexible in this ruling. He said he is looking into how it can be changed when it is already this far down the road. Pressure should be applied by as many people as possible to as many places as possible. Large numbers contacting FSW about this will make it clear that banning a popular domestic breed of poultry is not the way to go to deal with invasive species. PLEASE be polite! George Allen can be contacted at george_t_allen@fws.gov
    Phone: 703-358-1825.
FWS is under the Interier Dpt, which is headed up by Ken Salazar: DC Phone: 202-224-5852; DC Fax: 202-228-5036.
Contacting your reps and senators about this would help.
Mr. Allen is open to allowing muscovys in backyard flocks but not as pets bc it was pet owners who were primarily suspected of releasing unwanted birds. I can live with that as a stated objective as long as there is not registation and tracking mechanisms set up for ownership.

    Comment M Evans — March 6, 2010 @ 9:17 am

  10. M Evans…I am passing your post along to the network that I am involved with,it goes to several thousand people nationwide,so maybe we all working together can get some action on this and stop it,folks please take a few moments and contact this fella and let him know there are better methods available than this proposal,I know we are all busy but this is important to alot of people.

Also know that these federal registry things can be undone by congress fairly easily BEFORE they become law, its way more involved AFTER the fact! So lets let them hear from all you good people! Thanks!

    Comment LEE — March 6, 2010 @ 8:23 pm

  11. Heres what I sent them)

I would like to take a moment and request that you review the proposed federal registry concerning the regulation of muscovy ducks.

I understand that in some places they have become a problem but I am sure that another solution can be found to control them where this has occured.

Allowing a new federal rule to take effect that would involve farmers, breeders and backyard meat/egg producers, and even folks who show these fine animals is a bit draconian in my estimation.

As a farmer I have had these ducks around for years(over 40) and have never had one run away or go wild; here in NW Pa. the climate would never allow them to survive the winters, not to mention they taste like chicken to every predator out there!

The simple fact is that this situation does not call for a one size fits all solution, this needs to be addressed in the areas where it is a problem and farmers like myself left to raise the food we have used for generations, regulating these birds will be a hardship on tens of thousands of people who raise these fine birds for food or for a living!

Those of us who keep livestock have to regularly bring in new bloodlines to keep imbreeding from damaging the lines,we have to be able to purchase and keep these animals without having to fear govt interference.

I respectfully request that this proposal be reworked to keep this from hurting people rather that helping people. I thank you for your time! Lee Cornell

  12. text
This is from Humanewatch where they watchdog what Peta and HSUS are up to and blast their efforts to pieces with great commentary and facts, such as the following…

    “Feb 26 2010—
On Wednesday, a bunch of farmers from several different organizations walked the halls of Wisconsin’s state capitol in Madison. They visited with dozens of lawmakers, giving each one a letter along with an interesting prop: an empty plate carrying their message.”

I left a comment about too bad they did not mention NAIS on that plate since WI mandated premises registration and arresting the Amish for refusing to do so.

  14. A few comments: muscovies where I live do not survive in the wild…predators get them. Now, at Missourians against Nais, message #5759 by Sue Diedrich has a news article she found by J. Patrick Boyle, CEO of American Meat Institution…he was advocating a free trade agreement with some countries..important article to read. Ironically, Bill Bullard, CEO of R-Calf just testified March 2nd before the U.S. International Trade Commission on this very subject, re: a free trade agreement with some other countries…and the damage they (FTA’s)have done to the cattle industry. Go to r-calfusa.com and at the left sidebar, hit on “news releases” and that will take you to their article on March 3rd, re: R-calf’s testimony… And, in regards to the Federal Registry (and who really runs the country: the bureaucrats) Gary North has a most enlightening article titled “Power to the People”…at lewrockwell.com/north/north821.html (march 6th)..he has where you can bring up all of last years “rules” in The Federal Registry…60,000 pages..he challenges you to pick any day and read the rules and see if you understand them..he explains how they are made law…and most people do not even know about the Fed. Reg. He gives the solution too, to this problem…impt. to read…

  15. The ecofreaks have a potential new product for farmers!

    Ecogeek

A tank to collect methane is fitted to the cow then you use the tanks of methane to fuel your pickup truck! There was a guy in Leominster Ma who ran his pickup on methane generated from chicken manure, perhaps he can sell conversion plans.

Sounds like a great “green energy” plan. Convert grass into fuel for the car and steaks for the freezer at the same time. Run the freeze on methane too. Just think it will give farmers every where a new product to sell!

  20. NAIS and CENSUS and GOOGLE EARTH

I had my farm gps’ed by the census taker last fall. She got the coordinates for my front door and my driveway at the road. Now I have just noticed for the first time, My exact driveway is on Google Earth and before it was off by a mile. Now it is very exact from the census takers gps. (I believe). The part that concerns me the most is that the Google Earth map of my farm now says “Courtesy of the USDA”…. It used to say “Courtesy of the US geological survey” Have they tied census… gps…and google map to the NAIS for the future?????

    mark hagen

[Very interesting. It used to be that Google Earth was close on my location. Then it was off by a mile. This year I noticed it was off by about two miles. The census takers haven’t been here yet this year. We’ll see what happens… -WJ]

  21. Strange, but the Census mailed to me has the correct street address, but the city and zip code is wrong. According to the address on the form I, live in another town in another county. It is odd that the post office managed to deliver it, as it should have gone to the next county.
Any ideas, should I correct it?

    Comment eileen — March 14, 2010 @ 5:36 pm

  22. 21,personally Id let them be wrong…if they cant find your location in the future,it may be to your advantage, the census minions havent been here yet,I keep the gate closed and locked just for them, and they wont be getting in any farther than that gate, they can GPS the gate but not my door.

Winners, losers emerge in Obama’s budget

“The president is also requesting $14 million for a state-administered livestock traceability system. The project had formerly been known as the National Animal Identification System, but the USDA announced in early February that it was scrapping plans for a national scheme and moving toward a state-run program (see JAVMA, March 15, 2010, page 600).”

  28. This is off topic, well sort of. This particular comment stood out among some other great comments at wattsupwiththat: Earth Hour in North Korea a stunning success

The Nighttime satellite photo of North and South Korea shows North Korea is completely without lights - as usual…

“North Korea is a fine example of what happens when those who wrap themselves in a cloak of morality gaze upon the huddled masses and determine that those who disagree with them are defective by way of intelligence or upbringing, and so must be neutralized and controlled by the state for the benefit of the greater whole.

I hope Ravetz and Lakoff et al are paying attention.

  29. I forgot to add this to comment 28

The campaign to tell people what they can eat is heating up, not only are corporations getting into the act at work thanks to promotions such as HR Daily Advisor: Wellness Programs

but now along with “nutrition facts” on the packaging of food I am finding “sensible portion” information from a new group at www.sensibleportions.com

Maybe I am getting paranoid but along with the “health care” law this could put the government in charge of my body down the road.

Rationing of food was a way of life here in the USA at one time. My husband and brother are both old enough to remember it. There have certainly been signs that we are heading into another time of PLANNED food scarcity.

“In summary, we have record low grain inventories globally as we move into a new crop year. We have demand growing strongly. Which means that going forward even small crop failures are going to drive grain prices to record levels. As an investor, we continue to find these long term trends..very attractive.

In addition to “helping” us to make “proper” food choices, the hospital I work at just instituted a new policy that they will not hire anyone who tests positive for nicotine on a pre-employment drug test. They say that as a health care provider, they want to “lead the way”, and it is to save on the high cost of insurance.
I see this as another slippery slope towards behavior control instigated with Obamacare.

Yes I really love how we are “free” but must submit to intrusive searches of our body to earn a living. GRRRrrrr

I wonder if part of the reason for the attack on farmers (regulations) was because that is the last occupation where a person was truly “free” All the rest of the occupations including babysitting and house cleaning are now regulated thru the government, IRS or the insurance industry to the point an ordinary person can not easily go into business for themselves. It gives the word “wage-slave” an entirely new meaning.

I am sure that one of the future requirements of Obamacare will be subcutaneous “smart” RFID tags that broad cast all sorts of information about you.
