In this article at the High Plains Journal there is a survey on the right that asks “Do you think
privatizing the animal ID database will protect your privacy?” Let them know what you think.

It’s nice of HPJ to provide an opportunity for widespread opinion to be heard. As for the remarks in the article, it seems a little time-buying waffling is underway.
Comment DW in Grafton — September 3, 2006 @ 10:00 am
Oh sure, privatizing the ID makes me feel comfortable. Now the USDA can watch us through a for profit company.
The only thing that is clear is that THE USDA REALLY DOESN’T GET IT. Not my animals, not my farm, not my home. NO
Comment Steve Ainsworth — September 3, 2006 @ 10:07 am
Well, let’s see… The government hasn’t done a very good job of keeping data safe. On the other hand, neither have private companies. So, basically, they’re asking if you think your data will be safer if a private company gets sloppy with security than if the government does. Too bad they don’t have a “flip a coin” option. That’s about what it is - that type and amount of data is not going to stay private anywhere for all that long. Just imagine the temptation to private companies to “mine” or sell the data, then claim it was a ’slip’ and pay a fine that is a lot less then the profit they made.
Comment Ray Beere Johnson II — September 3, 2006 @ 10:14 am
A chip is still a chip,it will never be private.Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you.
Comment Scott — September 3, 2006 @ 10:30 am
Perhaps the chip is needed to weed out the “home grown beef” producers so that dangerous and uninspected food from other countries can be brought into the food chain in America. All kinds of nightmares will errupt from this unConstitutional forcing of farmers to identify their animals in a unnecessary, unnatural and draconian way.
Say NO to all unConstitutional control. We are not slaves, we are a free people!
Comment Jan — September 3, 2006 @ 10:56 am
This type of legislation is just one more reason the small farmer needs to return and reassert their power and independence with a vengence.
A chip in animals is one step away from a chip in humans…
NOT TODAY! NOT EVER!
Comment Julie Riechert — September 3, 2006 @ 11:00 am
Given the history of governments, in this country and around the world, they WILL obtain the data they want, and they WILL give it to whomever they want for whatever purpose THEY want. The only way to keep your privacy is to not give them anything.
Comment Rich Amber — September 3, 2006 @ 12:26 pm
Being about to retire to what may become a mini-farm, I’m terrified that my government may destroy my dream. The “plan” talks about enforcement and buy in by the principals - state, federal and business - what about the citizens? The grass roots farmer and self sufficient homesteader, who will bear a disproportionate burden of this regulation, are glossed over in this near content free piece of pretty work by the insulated personalities living inside the beltway. The only penalties that will be imposed will be on the “little guy” because they are easy targets once they identify themselves. Until and unless the government will step up to paying the full cost for NAIS and tracking for the public good, it should not be mandatory.
Comment Charles Thurber — September 3, 2006 @ 1:11 pm
Personally, I do not care if the chains around my neck are provided by a private company or a government, made in china or in America, made of solid gold or rusty iron ,they’re still chains and I’ll be dead before I wear them ! I will live free, or not at all.
Comment Lee — September 3, 2006 @ 2:18 pm
Isn’t that a rigged survey?
If the majority says privatization of the database will not insure privacy then the assumption is that USDA will.
Blah!!!
Why don’t they give us a space on their site to clearly express opinion(s).

Im sorry, but privitization is just another word for corruption and there is no other way to look at it except by example. More of the same is just more of the same.. To say that NAIS is something new is just another lie, disguised as a lie said to be the truth, said often enough that the real truth no longer gets press..

Thanks, Walter ~
I sent the following:
The proposed National Animal Identification System (NAIS) has been in the works for some time. It’s proponents claim food and animal safety issues as their driving force. Over the past few months, I have come to see this plan as being more about control than about health, safety, and national security.
Secretary of Agriculture Johanns talks as though the plan is a done deal and all of American agriculture is behind this plan one hundred percent. He apparently has not followed, or at least publicly acknowledged, the growing opposition to any mandatory ID plan by countless agricultural entities throughout the nation.
It matters not one whit whether the intention is to have USDA or a private entity control your so called ‘data base’; the fact is if we own our land and our animals, a mandated RFID tagging system requiring constant access by the USDA or said private entity is a violation of our right “to be secure in [our] persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures” not to mention just common everyday invasion of privacy. In fact, I’m not sure where the “We the People” applies.
It appears this plan is an end run for the agribusiness and high tech industries and will spell hard times for many United States Citizens without their voices having been heard and without their consent.
Your survey is rigged! If a privately controlled data base is considered unsafe by the majority of those participating, then it is assumed that those participating in the survey have given their consent to USDA as being the ’safe’ haven for surveillance data. SHAME!!!
I choose to be in NO data base, privatized or otherwise.
Seriously,

ATTENTION PA FOLKS, and anyone else interested, Art Hershey is the House Ag chairman in PA. He has a lot of say as to whether SB 865, (which is now in his committee) lives or dies. Please write to him and express your opposition to this “enabling” bill for NAIS/Primise ID in PA. Please be nice, it is my understanding that he is sympathetic to our side and that he has a farm of his own and has some misgivings about this thing.( we can hope) This could have a major effect on this issue. thanks!

I don’t even know if the federal/private negotiation of data is real.
They already have the data collection site here:
link
This data collection method was already signed into law under Jimmy Carter in 1979 and then greatly expanded under Clinton in 2000.
link
NAIS is only 1 of 190 data collection sources.
I think if they get anywhere at all with the ‘private’ negotiations, they may just point another domain to the data collection site and say, ‘there, better?’.
Say hello to the UNESCO treaty of Healthy People.

PA Rep. Hershey was kind enough to respond to my email personally. Some of what he said to me was
“Several members of the committee, including myself, have many questions and concerns about this legislation and plan to explore every aspect of it thoroughly.”
and
“At this time, I believe too many questions remain unanswered to move forward with such enabling legislation.”
This is a good sign. Let’s send him more email thanking him for looking seriously at this issue and urging him to keep it tabled.

Walter,
I think the Appaloosa Horse Club can be moved to the Nice list. They have issued a new position statement that says
“the expansion of technology to track and report all movement of horses…….is seen as restrictive and economically prohibitive to the equine ndustry…….there is no need for a tracking system of this magnitude……..the cost to institute and maintain such a system………would be financially catastrophic to farm and ranch owners, not to mention the time commitment………an industry that depends on the movement of horses………..would be severely stifled to the point of extinction.
While the ApHC does support microchipping as a form of identification, it does not support microchipping technology for the tracking of all equine movement.”
Comment Barbara — September 3, 2006 @ 8:34 pm
The practical characteristics of fascist economics are that:
1) The state is more important than the individual. Forming his own definition of fascism, Mussolini stated, “The Fascist State organizes the nation, but leaves a sufficient margin of liberty to the individual; the latter is deprived of all useless and possibly harmful freedom, but retains what is essential; the deciding power in this question cannot be the individual, but the State alone.” Under fascism, individual freedom is considered dangerous and threatening to the power of the state, more often than it is considered desirable room for individual expression and achievement. Mussolini also said, “Fascism reasserts the rights of the State as expressing the real essence of the individual.” In short, like socialism, fascism is collectivist rather than individualist.
2) Government-business ‘partnerships’ are formed to organize new initiatives designed to improve or expand existing major businesses and industries.
3) Major industries which are deemed essential are planned centrally, with the collusion of both politicians and prominent corporate executives. This central planning seeks market ‘order,’ disdaining the ‘chaos’ which is actually the complexity of independent action within a free market.
4) Mercantilism and protectionism are established to favor major domestic industries at the expense of foreign imports. In a fascist economy, the people who live outside of the borders of the state are considered means for the profit of industries within the state, rather than partners for mutual advantage.
The essential definition of fascism which can be distilled from these characteristics is the co-interference of business in government and government in business, so that the two are inseparable. In fascism there is no major business which is not connected to central planning, and the avowed interests of the state are heavily determined by the wishes of prominent business figures who lead corporations. It is worth noting that economic fascism was more commonly referred to as corporatism by promoters. Today the corporation continues to be the means to consolidate and control modern economies, a container in which individual economic action is more easily managed and integrated with political rule, under the complex systematization of corporate law. link or google economic fascism for a look at NAIS and like Programs.
The above 4 definiation are a clear definition of NAIS and the corporate/government ruining of our Constitution and Nation. I do not want any data base or NAIS.
History is repeating itself and it can be stopped.
Comment Sue Karber — September 3, 2006 @ 10:47 pm
I meant to add that definition number 4, of economic fascism from former post 16… is Global Corporations that have no border loyalty or Political Idenity but uses existing agencies and systems within governments to control the whole thus making all stakeholders actually servants of the global state and national soverienty is to be destroyed and replaced with manageable regions….like the 10 regions the UN has on it’s site as well as the calling of all animals the “world herd”.
Our non elected government agencies have become the tools to bring down our Constitution and form of government in favor of the world government run by corporations with willing political placements…parties be damned because none of them read the bills they pass but do as told in my opinion .
Comment Sue Karber — September 3, 2006 @ 11:15 pm
I am all for health and the welfare of the common weal, but talk of “coalitions”, and “partnerships” for a global approach to health improvement sounds damn scary to me. We’ve already begun to see what the FDA/USDA is willing to do to save a few hundred people from death by cold-cuts. What happens when they decide to erradicate piles?
Sounds like we’re in some endless war on diseases with a faceless, shapeless, crafty enemy. You can be dang sure the any health database won’t be a Schindler’s List when the erradication teams are deployed.

As far as mandatory or voluntary, when Mike Johanns states “driven from bottom up” and “Somewhere way down the road, somebody will make an assessment on how it is going”,
The assessment will be that if they have more than half signed up than the balance of the people will be forced. Wake up, its keep us quite while they work behind our backs.

Republicans and Democrats, Christians and nonChristians, all of us who believe in a truly free country, really need to get together on this one. Not all Republicans are Oligiarchs. And I am sure there are plenty of Democrats who support more eco-friendly alternative lifestyles and farm products could get together on this. Christians should know better, though unfortunately, many seemed duped in this situation. And nonChristians, should still fear for the loss of their personal freedom. We all are frustrated with the current administration for a wide number of reasons.
Can anyone start submitting articles to broader magazines and newlists that might go beyond the homesteading/small farm community? Those who enjoy organic food, preservation of the environment (surely mass slaughter of wild and domestic animals would bother them as well as a monopoly of monoculture agriculture), animal welfare, homeschooling and those involved with 4H, FFA, etc? A broader range of people need to learn of this and very quickly!
Those knowledgeable on politics and history and know about the many past instances where government purposely induced mass famine with the intent of controlling the masses, should also become aware.
This issue does go way beyond farming, and it would be nice if people who are skilled writers (and are previously published) would try to pursue these other interest groups as well.

95% against private database management, when I visited.
Hi All:
I need help in figuring out what I can do. I am very troubled about our countries direction. After much research and soul searching, I just don’t see how I can stand by and do nothing. But I am less than certain what I can do.
Baring down upon America between 2007 and 2009 are NAIS, REAL ID, IPMC, illegal immigration reform, SPP, along with other treaty entanglements common American’s seem largely unaware of. Although I take heart in the fact that there is widespread grassroots backlash to NAIS I don’t view NAIS as the primary threat, rather merely an element.
I would really appreciate your critique of my estimation, and suggestion as to what I do. Other than writing the various lists wherein I participate. I completely understand if you contact me privately, and promise confidentiality.
What I have concluded, from an American perspective, is that the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America(SPP.gov) is the principle threat to our nations continued sovereignty. The remaining issues are merely elements of the SPP. Which of course is but an element of the long anticipated world government.
Now NAIS is receiving, thankfully, widespread grassroots attention. But, NAIS isn’t the head of this serpent. I want to figure out how to make SPP more widely discussed and resisted. Your suggestions, or criticism! would be appreciated.
(If you haven’t read the documents, or made note of what information is being withheld from the interested public, you owe it to your great grand children; i.e., if you value their liberty of self determination in their own lifetime. See for yourself, please!)
respectfully and hopefully yours, Wm
ps Any technical suggestions for a web site couldn’t hurt.

Hi Everyone,
I seem to detect a note of pause in “action” or “direction” of the people, against the NAIS.
This is not going to be easy folks, and it is not going to be changed overnight.. You have to get “grit, ” dig in your heels, and fight this NAIS, no matter how hard or how long it takes.
This country has turned into such a spoiled, politically correct, concerned about my new car and house, and what everyone will think of me, if I say anything out of the normal line, and everything else can just “blow” on by type of life.
This is what you do folks:
You write these “deadwood” politicians and tell them you are going to VOTE the “INCUMBANTS” out. AND YOU DO THAT!
You keep telling people over and over, and over again, and make them see the problem.
Sure everyone get’s disappointed or tired, but just how much “Slavery” in your life is it going to take to FIGHT for REAL, and until the FIGHT is WON! Or do you lazy overweight cry babies, just going to cry while in your “irons.” I am not. I am going to Fight. Period. I got a lot of good years yet, I intend to be free, or die a free man, with “respect.”
PS: The Govt. is coming at us from all sides, with National ID data-mining, mark of the beast, etc.
Yes, I believe NAIS is at the top of this list and MOST IMPORTANT. They control your animals, you are then already under their control, with the food chain. You don’t eat, you die.

#18,23,25,26: I have been feeling like this for a while now, but am only just finding words to express my mood. I have written about it here and spoken of it here. Only now am I beginning to get some feed back from a few people in the rest of the world.
At first I thought I was mad. Stir-crazy, unemployed, disabled dude with way-too much time on his hands–Mel Gibson in “Conspiracy Theory”. But more and more the craziness is coming into the light.
The real challenge, and perhaps the toughest one of all, is to wake up the sheeples in the rest of the Nation. Those people who won’t get off the couch to change the channel from a show they hate, because they can’t find the remote. Those people who never say anything offensive to even their dog for fear of being dis-liked. Those people who think everyone is a winner–man I hate that one: You’re either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a competition. If you’re not that then you didn’t “win”. Try harder the next time. Those people who think imported food is great because it is cheap and we should import more. Those people who worry about who did what to whom on the latest sit-com or who will win the American Dream Star Ultimate Competition of the Universe interupted by countless, mind-numbing commercials for stuff we just gotta have.
Religion isn’t the opiate of the masses–if it is I want another old-fashions hit. Media is the new opiate and man is it addictive and strong. And until we can get the mainstream media to shake off their shackles and take notice and use their first amendment rights to speak out we won’t get very far.
America is too afraid to speak out. To be labled un-patriotic, terrori$t or traitor. The State is gaining far more control and power than they deserve. We are becoming more Eastern Block than the Eastern Block. Soon the “wall”–the North American Nafta Super-Highway–will divide East from West. Microchips will be needed to cross the country (Passports and papers please. . .) and we will be made to be grateful for the few remaining freedoms we have like some sort of post-apocalyptic, Stockhold-syndrome dogs (or Iraqis. . .)
Where are the John Browns, the Daniel Shays of this latest totalitarian injustice? Who shall stand?

And just because it suits the mood:
“Oh for a voice like thunder, and a tongue to drown the voice of war,
When the soul is driven to madness, who can stand?
When the souls of the oppressed fight in the troubled air that rages,
Who can stand?
When the whirlwind of fury comes from the throne of God,
When the frowns of his countenance drive the nations together,
Who can stand?
When Satan claps his broad wings over the battle, and sails rejoicing in the flood of death,
When the souls are torn to everlasting fire, and fiends of Hell rejoice upon the slain,
Oh who can stand?
Oh who has caused this?
Oh who can answer at the throne of God?
The Kings and the Nobles of the land have done it,
Hear it not Heaven, thy ministers have done it!”

Here’s some USDA “PROPAGANDA” Misinformation; on Guide to Small-Scale or Non-Commercial Producers: Let’s see the USDA “explain” this Mr. USDA.inc Man! I think his name his jo…ke..
Animal owners no longer trust the USDA because their literature about FPI and NAIS is misleading and in many instances contradictory.
A Guide for Small-Scale or Non-Commercial Producers that the USDA published on June 2, 2006, does not indicate that it supersedes the DRAFT Strategic Plan 2005 to 2009.
It was not entered into the Federal Register as an official document, nor as a document for which comments were to be accepted.
Since it contradicts the DRAFT Strategic Plan 2005 to 2009, one must assume that it is basically a press release or a propaganda document and not a change in the USDA DRAFT Strategic Plan 2005 to 2009.

NAIS is only one of many programs that are based on lies and are to make servants of the state, now called stakeholders, of the citizens.
Every citizen that wants to be a real property owner must fight and fight with facts. Organize an informational meeting in your area. http://libertyark.net/ is a great place to start and will help you get it together with how-tos. Many of us will speak in our areas but alone we can not organize all the meetings. We will show up, help you, but can’t do it all.
Get a group together for a meeting and we will come. We can and will do a meeting with the USDA reps there and local politicians.
Keep up the one on one information and keep flyers in all locations even barber shops and beauty parlors, anywhere there are people. There are many consumers out there that will lose access to good clean food, good choice and good prices if we do not inform them. Meet their needs in information and get them to these informational meetings. Think about it. Would you rather eat foods that are REALLY inspected, tested at packer level or have foods from self-policed packers with tags that do nothing to assure safety.
linkthis proves that USDA does not work for the consumer but for the packers. There are many more examples. Even with tests and verified findings the USDA seems to care less about safety.
When I grow my own I know what I have on the table and when I buy from a local little producer I know where my food came from and how it was raised. No quicker trace back than that.

This is the import rules that stops inspections on imports to US replacing them with occassional inspections. So much for safety. So much for USDA looking out for consumers.
Grass fed rewritten to feed lot fed. Consumers need to know that NAIS is not for their safety but to raise costs, lower quality, reduce choices and make their choices less safe to put on the table.
Do you want to eat a cow tagged or tested clean at packers with a test approved by USDA and EU? Let the packer test, let the packer be inspected not self-policed and let the small farmer, local farmer, hobby farmer, self use producer survive. Consumers will relate to these choices and outcomes. Get the information to them.
