The USDA Should not regulate micro-farms*. They have no business micromanaging the lives of homesteaders and small farmers who sell direct to consumers. The USDA does not seek or heed our input. The USDA does not understand our traditional small farming - They think big. We do not get any USDA subsidies - Those go to the big corporate farms for the most part. Having the USDA invading our farmsteads would be like OSHA, the health department and the FDA regulating our homes and kitchens. They have no business interfering with our private lives or direct sales between individuals.
Write to your senators and representatives as well as your state legislators to tell them that homesteaders, pet livestock owners and small farmers selling direct to consumers should be specifically exempt from all regulations by the USDA, other federal and state agriculture agencies. Your privacy and basic Constitutional rights are at stake.
While you are at it, also send a copy to all of the members of the US Senate Agricultural Committee. They need to hear from the little people like us who will be abused by NAIS. Bonus Credit: Send a copy to the US Senate Appropriations Committee and to as many newspapers and other media as possible.
Protect our traditional rights to farm!
*Micro-Farms or µFarms are pet livestock owners, homesteaders raising their own food and making some direct sales and small farms grossing under $250K/yr and selling direct to the consumer.
